Transcending Time and Space: A High-End Custom-Made Bistro

The design inspiration for Cigar Age came from the client's pursuit of a high-end custom-made bistro. The designers aimed to create a space that transcends time and space, offering an aesthetic feast to its visitors. The use of smoky textures, antique dyed leather, and technical control functions resulted in a sophisticated interior that is both private and unique.

Spaciousness and transparency were the main axes of the overall space setting. The high ceiling design allows the independent booths and storerooms to present a layered and changing appearance. The design also includes an exclusive humidity control system, corridors, cabinet laminates, and ventilation grills for proper allocation of functions.

The bistro uses materials such as leather, wood, and black iron to create a smoky, vintage atmosphere. The space includes an open dining area, a bar area, a wine cellar, a cigar room, and private booths. Each area has its own function, ensuring that different scenes in the space retain their respective functions and the consistency of the whole space.

The project was completed in September 2016 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The design team, led by Hung-Teng Hsiao, faced several challenges during the design process. One of the main challenges was the deployment of the wine cellar. In addition to picking exquisite materials, the team also had to consider functional control aspects. They designed a special temperature and humidity regulator and an air intake duct that forces the air back to the space.

Cigar Age was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
